Painting and Ceramics
Painted on wood, paper or glass, realized using traditional techniques and materials, the painted icons are ever-present in peoples' houses and in churches. In any local home or church the walls are decorated with invaluable icons. In the past, the talked-about glass icons were realized mostly in monasteries. Nowadays, talented artists have learned the craft of glass painting and have impressive accomplishments.

There are two important centers for ceramics modelling in Maramures:
Sacel - a traditional ceramics center is specialized mostly in red, unfinished, old school ceramics. Decorated using simple geometric motifs, in one colour only, the ceramics objects made here are known for their simplicity, originality and good taste.
Ceramics modelled in Baia Mare is finished, richly coloured, and contains geometric and anthropomorphical motifs that are also appreciated worldwide.
