The classes take
place on the premises of the IZA POPELUC FOUNDATION,
in the village of Hoteni, inside Ion Pop’s
traditional house. The classes take place between
the 14th and the 23rd of August and the 28th of
August and the 6th of September respectively.The
Village Dancing Party is held at the gazebo of Sat
Sugatag on the 22nd of August and at Ion Pop’s
courtyard gazebo on the 5th of September 2004.
Saturday
Accommodation facilities in Hoteni range from traditional
wooden house lodging to modern brick house lodging.
Choices are between single, double and triple rooms,
each couple of rooms sharing one bathroom equipped
with running water and lavatory
On their arrival, guests are being offered the customary
horinca (the local plum brandy) along with the traditional
bread and salt. Having dinner in the gazebo is a
great opportunity for the students to get to know
each other and their hosts as well. Dinner made
up of local dishes is followed by well-deserved
rest.
Sunday
Breakfast and boarding on a trip to Maramures around
9.30. The trip includes the major tourist attractions
on the Cosau Valley, the Iza Valley and the Mara
Valley. Wooden churches, priceless monuments of
folk architecture, some of them included in the
UNESCO patrimony, folk technical devices, famous
objectives such as the Merry Cemetery of Sapanta,
the convent of Barsana , the church belonging to
the Sapanta-Peri monastery, the highest wooden church
worldwide, (which towers up to 75m), the Maramures
Museum of Sighetu Marmatiei.
On holidays the peasants of Maramures dress up traditionally
and go to church. On Holy Mary’s Assumption
Day i.e. the 15th of August, many villagers set
out on a pilgrimage to the monastery of Moisei,
this event being included in the schedule. After
an open air lunch the students and their guides
return to Hoteni for dinner and rest. |
