Maramures Academy
Started by Nord Nord*Vest Travel Agency in collaboration with Iza Popelul Traditional Art Foundation, this program assists those who are interested in Maramures tradtional art. Taught by well known local artists, the students can learn to play musical pieces, the dance steps and can become ambassadors of Maramures folklore. Those who want to master the local crafts can enroll in initiation courses in wood carving, weaving, manual embroidery, or ceramics. Master craftsmen, well known locally and across the world will reveal their secrets to those who are interested to learn. Also, those who want to get accustomed with the local traditional cuisine ca do that assisted by renowned local cooks ('socacite'). The courses are organized in 10 day modules and include housing and meals in authentic Maramures houses, materials, assistance and a tour of the most important local attractions. Following the courses, a gala will showcase the works of the students as well as the local artists. The best student works will be awarded varios prizes.
