As recognition of their value and uniqueness, in 1999 eight of Maramures' wooden churches were included in UNESCO's world patrimony protected by the institution. [1-4] [5-8]

5. Plopis (1796-1798)
The church named "Saints Michael and Gavril" in situated only 2 km away from the Surdesti church. All the paintings on the inside walls are made using only vegetable oil.

6. Poienile Izei (1604)
The church named "Ste. Paraschiva" contains paintings representing the Final Judgement. The inside paintings show compelling images of the fight between Good and Evil.

7. Rogoz (1663)
The church named "Saints Michael and Gavril" is situated only 2 km away from Tg. Lapus and contains paintings of the Final Judgement, Creation and the Good Samaritan.

8. Surdesti (1767)
The church named "Saints Michael and Gavril" is catholic and displays the tallest wooden church tower in Europe. The tower is 45 m high and it is three times taller than the base.
